Rep. Tim Wilkin Joins WeberJohnson Public Affairs

Former House Commerce Chair and Asst. Commissioner of Human Services brings expertise in health care, financial services, regulated industries and taxes

St. Paul, MN—-WeberJohnson Public Affairs (WJPA) today announced the addition of former Representative Tim Wilkin to its high-level strategic consulting and government relations team. Wilkin will build upon WJPA’s growing government relations and public affairs practice in the areas of regulated industry, taxes, health care, financial services and general business regulatory issues.

“Tim built a breadth of expertise in the area of health care and regulated industries during his eight years in the Minnesota legislature and as Asst. Wilkin’s services will include legislative representation such as: strategy development; message development; grass roots organizing; bill drafting and monitoring; and lobbying legislators, staff and agency decision-makers. Client representation including strategic policy development and advocacy of client needs before state regulatory agencies. Helping companies identify and pursue business opportunities with state and local government units. Tim will assist with the development of strategic paths to procurement success navigation of established procurement procedures, and expedition of procurement procedures.

Prior to joining WJPA, Wilkin was Asst. Commissioner of Human Services under Governor Tim Pawlenty. In his role, he worked as Chief Operating Officer and directed legislative efforts of the agency. Tim also worked closely with Minnesota Departments of Health, Commerce, Labor & Industry, Employment & Economic Development, and the Office of Enterprise Technology. While in the Minnesota Legislature, Tim served as Assistant Majority Leader and Chairman of the Commerce and Financial Institutions Committee.

Background

Tim brings a unique mix of extensive business and government experience to his government affairs and public policy practice. He spent eight years in the Minnesota House, serving in leadership positions including assistant majority leader and chair of the Commerce and Financial Institutions Committee. His areas of expertise include health care, human services, financial services, general business regulation & issues, and taxes.

Tim then served in an executive leadership role as Assistant Commissioner at the Department of Human Services under Governor Tim Pawlenty. In this role he worked as a regulator, Chief Operating Officer, and also directed the legislative efforts of the agency. Tim worked directly with the Governor’s Office, the Department of Health, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Labor and Industry, the Department of Employment and Economic Development, and the Office of Enterprise Technology, as well as with the legislature, on a wide range of issues.

Previous experience includes service on the Dakota County Planning Commission and the Burnsville-Eagan Cable Commission.

Tim has over 15 years of private sector experience in insurance, banking, and related industries. Tim also was a small business owner and is a licensed insurance agent.

Tim’s services include:

Tim has a BBA in Finance from The University of Iowa. He lives in Eagan, MN, with his wife and four children.
